About The Author

Booker T. Washington (1856–1915) was an influential African American educator, author, and leader in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for his autobiography, Up from Slavery, which details his journey from enslavement to becoming a prominent advocate for the education and economic advancement of African Americans. Washington's work at the Tuskegee Institute and his emphasis on vocational training left a lasting impact on American society.
