About The Author

Olaudah Equiano (c. 1745–1797) was a Nigerian-born writer and abolitionist whose autobiography, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, is a seminal work in the genre of slave narratives. Captured as a child and sold into slavery, Equiano eventually purchased his freedom and became a prominent voice in the movement to end the transatlantic slave trade. His writing provides a powerful firsthand account of the horrors of slavery and has been influential in both historical and literary contexts.
